Fair winds and following seas .

An America, where one isn’t divided, but instead are truly one. One Voice, One People, One America!

I am going to go out on a limb. I am going to break my own rule, and make an assumption about you, someone whom I have never even met before. Because you are reading this, I am going to assume you are hungry to make a difference. You are grateful to call this country Home, but believe part of being grateful is a willingness to do the work that will make this country even better. You believe part of patriotism is asking questions and taking a stand when the government no longer represents the people. You already have Hope. Your Hope is what compels you to Act. Every Action you take creates a Change.Remember beating the pavement in TX, canvassing in PA, phone banking, talking to just about anyone who would listen to you about why you believe that Barack Obama should be the next president of the United States? Remember feeling tired and frustrated when the occasional door slammed in your face or you got the finger one too many times from the guy in the “rules of a redneck” t shirt? Remember wondering if you were making a difference? Turn on the news. (Given the state of the mainstream media, I can’t remember the last time I encouraged someone to do that). Again, turn on the news. As I listened to John Edwards endorse Obama today, I thought of all of you. I thought of us. WE are the United States of America. So often I have felt like an outsider in my own country. Listening to that speech today I thought of so many people that I have been privileged to meet, so many people who are sacrificing and working tirelessly. YOUR work is paying off. HOPE. ACT. CHANGE. No longer an outsider, it feels good to have stepped inside. I wonder what change that small step will bring. I heard a man say the other day “the youth of America will not be ignored”. History is in the making. The wheel has already been set in motion. Tonight, congratulate yourselves on the fact that the wheel is gaining speed.

Over the course of these past few weeks we’ve been increasingly inundated with phrases like “working class white voters,” “white, blue-collar voters,” or simply “working class whites.” The rampant use of these stereotyped groups in relation to voting patterns is always used in context with Barack Obama’s candidacy. However, these attempts to point our divisions within our country among racial lines have failed.Mostly the continued attempts fail because it’s blatant how incorrectly they’ve defined me, and millions of other people. Being white isn’t relevant to voting patterns unless we’re trying to highlight and blow racism in this country out of proportion, which many appear hell-bent on doing. If we look below the surface, we can more clearly see that voting patterns among so called “working class whites” is as diverse and wide ranging as America is itself.I remember reading Wes’ blog about how he was struck by the diversity of members submitting to our site. So I went back and browsed some more on our mosaic and I had to laugh at these continued attempts to racially profile and divide us. The diversity I saw wtithin those submissions is more to the point of what America represents… and sure enough, there are plenty of us so called “working class white people” in there.Of course we don’t have to go back very far to remember how well Barack put this himself when delivering his now famous keynote address…“The pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue states; red states for Republicans, blue states for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the blue states and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states.”There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America.”

I was a man who was completely disgusted in government and the ability
of seeing a politician see past his/her own self fulfillment. This
message is coming from a person that was completely against that
power and the corruptness of government. He has that type of
presence not like that of a politician, but as of a civil rights
leader. A man that isn’t talking about how other people have been
through hard times but who has actually experienced that lifestyle. A
beacon of hope. Look into your past and try and understand
how progress came about. You… the individuals rising up and realizing
that yes WE do have the power to change the world that we live in.
YES…..WE…….yes i said….WE CAN. Simply AMAZING. BARACK
OBAMA… Not only for this country but for the world. Creating a
smaller world not through technology or devices but through breaking
down these international wall. We as a world can come together… And

This project is the result of the inspiration we all feel from Sen. Obama and the positive campaign he is leading. All of us have been touched in some way and the creative expressions shared by members of this community are amazing. As a result of the wonderful feedback received to date, it’s time to move into a second phase of Action. Change starts with hope and inspiration, but it needs action to make it a reality. Change doesn’t come about just from our leaders. It’s up to us to act in our individual communities to affect positive change.I’d love to hear your thoughts on:1. actions that need to take place in your communities2. actions that you intend to undertake to make your community better3. actions that need the help of othersAs this project continues to grow, the Action of the Week will become it’s own section, giving all members the ability to post actions and calls for help to make individual communities better. Over time, you’ll be able to measure your results and prove that we really are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

I am amazed and delighted to see our youth so involved in politics because of Obama's plea for bringing hope and change to this Nation. His message seems to cross racial, religious and political lines. We are becoming once again one nation....

Online for Obama

I joined the campaign in January as a precinct organizer in Minneapolis. We turned out 675 people for our caucus on Super Tuesday, and just under 80% voted for Obama! The week before I found the Will.I.Am video online and was so moved that I brought my laptop to the caucus and set it up at a table outside the hall, playing the video in a loop. I ran and was elected as an Obama delegate to the state DFL convention in Rochester, MN on June 6th. I'll be running there as a delegate for the national convention in Denver. I'm hoping to blog live from the convention, bringing the stories and news from actual delegates. So much of this campaign has been about inventing a new future for America, and this site and the online campaign is central to that invention. The day Barack Obama takes thew oath of office I know I'm going to cry--part because of all the missed opportunities and part in happiness about my children's future.
