Last night in my hometown of Evansville Indiana, Barack Obama gave another great speech. My Mom was the first to call me from Roberts Stadium after she saw the "Yes We Can Video" on the big screen. She was so proud we had contributed to the campaign in a new & interactive way through the creation and spreading of this speech.
Then I got a call from my brother who said it was the only thing (other than John Mellencamp) the campaign was using to fire up the crowd of over 7,000 people. It's truly amazing how grassroots supporters and friends are able to come together and have this big an impact on our democracy, which is what this website is really all about...
My brother brought my sister-in-law and nephew to the rally - this was my 5 year old nephew's first ever event like this. My Dad, who had stayed at home to watch my niece, (she's still too young for the big crowds) told me that when my nephew got home he was wearing a Barack Obama t-shirt, but more importantly - he had the most incredible look of awe on his face. This will no doubt be a moment in history he will remember for the rest of his life.
My family's support for Obama is important for many reasons. First and foremost, many of them live in Evansville Indiana where they are registered to vote, and will campaign for him. But, also because this time around, the political process has afforded them with an opportunity to dig a little deeper and have faith in someone who isn't operating around the lowest common denominator. It wasn't easy for my Mom to finally come around to Obama, but when she did, she said it was because he didn't fear failure & he wasn't afraid of telling the truth.
I thought about other politicians, and how many of them (despite knowing better), sacrifice their moral principles and beliefs in order to win at any cost. Failure to them is not an option, even if it means being blind to the ultimate cost of their own victory. The lines become blurred between left & right, right & wrong, until there's not much difference between the choices we have moving forward in our democracy. This time though, we finally have chance with a candidate who provides a clear distinction. Barack Obama's moral authority will restore our standing in the world.
Very thoughtful commentary! I couldn't agree more. We need more people spreading the word like this, so that we don't let indifference get the better of us, as it has for some time now.

In reference to Patrick's comments, I think he is correct.I wanted Hillary Clinton as the first woman president. I was a strong hold out saying I was not sure I could even vote for Barrack if he took the nomination. I must say I came around slowly. But I
